Texas Geographic Society

 

 

The Texas Geographic Society (TXGS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation created to unite public, private and nonprofit resources to improve government services and education through collaborative development and use of digital geographic data and related technologies. Its primary focus during the current year is on fulfilling a FEMA sponsored grant to build an Internet mapping resource for hazard mitigation in Texas. TXGS uses money brought in through membership fees to provide basic member services and to pay expenses for solicitation of grants and other assistance to allow it to build its programs and activities.

 

Benefits from membership:
Members are invited to participate in TXGS sponsored training and other activities at reduced costs or no fee, they receive the TXGS Newsletter and they will be eligible to participate in a members-only discussion lists and annual social. Members will also be invited to attend the annual fall summits addressing critical issues of geo-technology and public policy.

 

Period of membership:

TXGS will use the calendar year as its membership period. All members who join within the current calendar year (2004) will be considered paid through December 2005.  Those who join at the Founding-member level will be considered paid through December 2005.

 

Membership Categories

Student Members:

Reduced rate offered for students in college and graduate level studies.

 

Professional Members:

This is the normal level for individual participation by professionals.

 

Sustaining Members:

Intended for individuals who would otherwise be professional members but wish to participate at a higher level of support.  (Expected level of membership for Board and advisory Board members once initial Founding Membership categories expire).

 

Sustaining members receive preferred access to speakers and TXGS sponsored events (including invites to executive receptions at Galas and annual summits.
